Islamabad, April 1, 2026:
The Government of Pakistan is preparing to launch a targeted fuel relief program aimed at providing subsidized petrol to motorcyclists nationwide. This initiative is part of broader efforts to ease the financial burden caused by rising fuel prices amid the ongoing energy crisis.
Note: As of now, the exact official launch date has not been confirmed. Authorities are still finalizing details before a formal announcement.
Monthly Subsidized Petrol Quota
According to official sources, the scheme is being developed under the supervision of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication and the National IT Board.
Key details include:
- Registered motorcycle owners will receive a monthly petrol quota of up to 30 liters
- Subsidized fuel will be provided at reduced rates
- The quota is expected to range between 20 and 30 liters per month
Digital System for Transparency
The government plans to introduce a digital, app-based system to ensure fair and transparent distribution of fuel subsidies.
Highlights of the system:
- Mobile application for users
- Digital vouchers or QR codes for fuel access
- Real-time tracking of fuel consumption
- User verification to prevent misuse
This system will help ensure that beneficiaries do not exceed their monthly quota and improve overall accountability.
Deployment of Mobile Devices at Petrol Pumps
To support nationwide rollout:
- Around 24,000 mobile phones will be procured
- Approximately 12,000 petrol pumps will be equipped
- Each pump will receive two dedicated mobile devices
- Two separate fuel nozzles will be allocated for subsidized petrol
Oil marketing companies will manage the procurement and distribution of these devices to fuel stations.
Who Can Benefit from the Scheme?
The program primarily targets:
- Motorcyclists
- Three-wheeler (rickshaw) owners
Consumers will access subsidized petrol through the app using QR codes or digital vouchers.
App Development and Launch Update
Officials have confirmed:
- The mobile application has already been developed
- It is currently in the final testing phase
Once launched, this system will mark a major step toward digitized subsidy management in Pakistan.
Possible Expansion to Small Cars
The government is also considering extending the scheme to:
- Small vehicles up to 800cc
Although no final decision has been made yet, this could help relieve a larger group of low- and middle-income consumers.
Government Strategy and Monitoring
This subsidized petrol initiative is part of a larger strategy to address Pakistan’s energy challenges. Authorities are already:
- Monitoring petrol pumps nationwide
- Preparing contingency measures for emergency fuel supply disruptions
Expected Launch Announcement
An official announcement regarding the QR code-based fuel subsidy system is expected soon. Once implemented, it is likely to provide much-needed relief to millions of daily commuters who rely on motorcycles.
